Pentax FA 28-70mm F4 AL

In keeping with Pentax's traditional small size, this lens is very small for a zoom with a constant F4 aperture. With so many cheap lenses floating around, this one is easily confused with less expensive 28-70mm f4.5-5.6 lenses.

Very honestly, I do not like zooms, hence most of my pictures are taken with primes, and this lens is no exception. I have not used it for taking many pictures. I just like to have it around as a walk around lens if I want to take the camera out during the day and want a light load.

As it turns out, the lens is not bad at all for what it's selling for. Sure, when shot wide open, the contrast is a bit low and sharpness could be better, but stopped down one click at F5.6, things improved dramatically. Let's face it, even some of the Limiteds may not be very sharp wide open, and I think the FA 28-70mm f4's performance is quite repectable.

One thing I noticed is that the sky is very deep blue with this lens. It may be because the wide angle, but I tend to think that the Super Multi-Coating that Pentax is famous for, is responsible for it, at least partly. The pictures when taken in a sunny day, look like a polarizing filter was used.

I will add more images as I have.
