The Gilbert Riparian Preserve (also known as the Gilbert Water Ranch) is essentially a man-made reclaimed water filtration project initiated by the city of Gilbert. The result of this project are eight ponds set in the middle of a highly developed residential area...a true oasis in the desert! All this water and marsh habitat has attracted more than 200 species of water-loving birds, particularly a wide variety of shorebirds and waterfowl. As one might expect, this area has become a popular birding and bird photography area. I've had the fortune of visiting the preserve on a few occasions now in the winter months (which is when the bird count is highest). This gallery is a small collection of images I've come away with. Hopefully, I get more opportunities to add to this gallery in the future.
