This shot (and the several to follow) were taken from a canoe on Keller Lake in St. Paul. Shooting from a canoe enables you to achieve a very low to the water, eye level perspective of your subject. Of course this means you must hand hold your shots in an unstable environment. Fortunately it was a calm, sunny afternoon and the heron on this lake are used to boats and the humans within. This allowed us to float in rather close. The white particles floating on the water's surface are cottonwood seeds.
