I spent 5 days over Thanksgiving, 2006 photographing the wonders within Havasu canyon on the Havasupai reservation in northern Arizona. Havasu canyon is a side canyon of the Grand Canyon and has been carved out by the beautiful turquoise waters of Havasu creek. Within Havasu canyon are three major waterfalls - Navajo, Havasu and Mooney falls. While they are the major attraction for the many visitors to the area and beautiful in their own right, there is much, much more to this watershed. Beautifully terraced cascades and pour-offs abound throughout the creek's journey to the Colorado River. Add to this the changing colors of fall and you have a photographer's paradise. It was with the help of our guide (and friend) Derek von Briesen that we explored the many wonders of the area. Derek's knowledge of the canyon was instumental in leading us to locations that we'd never found on our own.
