Mr. Schmickle, I found your Osprey photos through a Google search, hoping to find some to compare with some of what I thought were my own pretty good captures. But yours put mine into perspective. I also have a Canon, but mine is just a Rebel XTi. My zoom lens is the cheapest 75-300 that came with the package deal. I haven't been as fortunate as you, to find the nest, but I was pretty excited about being lucky enough to get some photos of an Osprey capturing some rather large goldfish in the pond near my house. Although my captures are nowhere close to the caliber or yours, I'm hoping that you might take the time to check out, and give me some feedback, on those that I posted on another website. www.woophy.com (If you do a member ID search for Lisa Buchanan that will take you to my Osprey photos.)Your photos are really breathtaking, Guy! Thanks for your time and attention.

Hello Guy - Your photos of the San Juans are very nicely done! In fact, all of your galleries are very well composed and photographed. You know, there was not a cloud to be seen during my trip to the San Juans this year, but you put them to good use in your photos. Best regards - Gary

please let me know what i am looking at!
i live in a high rise apt, 8`th floor, on the west island of montreal
on a clear day , looking south westerly, i can see the adirondacks.
probably 60 or so miles away, as the crow flies.
the one big mountain stands out from the range. it has a peak, but looking at it from this distance, there aoppears to be a notch with a
smaller mound, right near the larger peak.
is this white face?
i can send you a panoramic picture i took recently., which clearly shows what i am attempting to describe! many thanks,

I just wanted to let you know that your pictures are amazing. I just ended my 2 month stay at Many Glacier Hotel. I actually have been working there, not staying I guess. I had a great time. I just kinda missed being there, I'm back home in Wisconsin now, so I came online to look at some pictures, I havent developed all of mine yet. It was nice to see all of yours. Isnt Glacier Beautiful? Unlike anything Ive ever seen. Thanks.

Hello Guy-

Very nice photos, indeed. I am the developer of a brand new Minnesota travel Web site,http://www.minnesota-vacation-guide.com . I am writing because I'd like to use some of your photos to illustrate the beauty of Minnesota. The site is in the early stages but I envision a place where people can submit photos, experiences, and receive personalized travel reviews. I would of course have a link to your Web site where you could sell the images that I use, etc.

Let me know what you think. Thanks in advance for your time. I look forward to speaking with you soon.

Sincerely,

Enjoyed your Sonoran Desert Scenes Gallery. Your photography is wonderful!!

I recently spent about 4 hours at the Saguaro National Park while on a business trip. I did not have a sunny day (mostly overcast) as you did but I think I was able to capture some decent shots. I am interested in getting your feedback on my photos (if you have the time)as you clearly understand the southweset.

Guy, your gallery IS THE BEST I have ever seen in the net! The night time shots are just out of the world. The sharpness, colour and the contrast from the Nikkon gear - unbelievable!! Is that due to digital manipulation or the full credit goes to the Nikkon? And of course to you too for creating these master pieces!
Karen Rosar 20-Jan-2005 21:13
Hello
I have been searching for an exquisite Mpls. photo. I found "Night Time Reflections" to be exquisite. I live in the neighborhood of the photo and would very much like to purchase a copy of this photo to display in the entry of my loft.
I am looking for a sizeable print, about 2 by 3 feet, or porportionatly appropriate.
Can you help me?
Thank you

guy,
thanks for the big ups. sedona has certainly been well represented as of late. i've actually been getting some prints and tour inquiries so it doesn't hurt to make it up the list. i've been hovering around 800-1000 hits/day, occasionally moving toward 2k. today, i've already gotten 3k!? wow. thanks again for your support and keep me posted on your vacation schedule. i'm planning a trip to death valley & valley of fire sometime in jan/feb along with my continuing efforts to get the grand canyon with a full compliment of snow. maybe a quick shot over to white sands too sometime soon.
best,

i don´t think that you are interestet in this hint and it´s not meant "knowing-it-all" but i have to get rid of it ;-) you set pics of wild animals on webshots.com (they are very great!) and there is a pic you named "Asian (Not So) Wild Horse"- i just wantet to say that this horse is called "Przewalski-Horse".
sorry that i wasted your time

guy,

people have great taste & that's why you're page 1 babee! btw: have you ever gotten lost in alex uchoa's lanscapes in brazil gallery? i would have to say the most amazing gallery i've ever seen on pbase. check it out if you haven't already.

thanks for the vote. yesterday was indeed incredible. gate was open at seven when i arrived. i had planned to shoot something else close by until their normal opening at 8am & was pleasantly surprised to see the inviting lot! tracking in 6" of fresh powder, with that incredible snow-deadened silence was quite literally a spiritual experience.

later on my way back (i had gone about two miles in; a longer trek than you might imagine, as so many tree branches were bent over into the trail), i came across a number of large format pros working the bottom & most colorful end of the canyon. one guy, who i quite regularly see there & chat with, turns out to be the foremost polar bear photographer in the the world. he does tours in antartica & the artic every year. nice guy . . . i only found out his prominence when another shooter pointed in out.

really, the online images don't do yesterday justice. so much fine detail in the snowy branches gets lost. the prints i've made up so far are just incredible. more snow on tap this week with periods of clearing so i'm really hoping to get a bit more light to play with.

hope you're not too cold in the frosty northland. i'll never forget seeing all the old barns & billboards on the interstate northbound to minneapolis all bent to the south from the perpetual northers! ooohhhh, cold my friend!!

keep getting those great shots of snowy, frozen waterfalls and beautiful wintery desolation. and when you need a dose of color & warmth, you know where to head. this spring, i'd really like to spend ten days in my camper around the escalante/grand staircase/paria river area. interested in coordinating something?

let me know,

dvb

yea guy, weather's been comin' down as of late. tons of snow (earliest and best arizona snow bowl opening in years) and lots of water down here. was hoping for a colder storm and some real snow in the canyon (west fork!) but not to be. been exploring some higher elevation kaibob plateau lakes with vistas of the snow-capped san fransiscos above flagstaff in the background. look for a new gallery soon. found some killer locations and will be returning for sunrises, clouds, more snow!!! even shot some 30 sec exposures under the moonlight tonight. downloading the cf card as we speak. hope all's well for you. your favorites gallery just blows me away. such incredible work!!! (one slight critique, if you'll allow me? some of the blended exposures, while perfectly done technically, have so expanded the dynamic range as to look a little artificial to my eye. take it for what it't worth. a small quibble with an absolutely mind-blowing body of work!!)

Hi Guy,

Thank you very much for your critique of my Zion gallery. I found your comments to be very useful and I appreciate you taking the time to help me out.

I actually prefer the underexposure as I felt that it made the colors a bit deeper. I even adjust the levels some to suit my taste. However, that's just my personal preference, and maybe I should consider lightening my photos up a bit in the future. I'll try that and see how I like them.

You're absolutely right about foreground interest. Sometimes I don't see anything that I think would look good. But a lot of the time I probably just forget to look. I think that when I'm surrounded by such beauty it's easy for me to lose sight of the fact that without forground interest or something for perspective the photograph isn't going to look nearly as good as what's currently before my eyes.
