FATHER Christmas made his first appearance of the year by helping to unveil a North Pole post office at Colchester department store Williams and Griffin.

Santa was greeted in Colchester High Street by about 1,000 cheering people, who counted down from ten to one before he unveiled the store’s annual festive offering.
He was also on hand to welcome little ones into his grotto, in the store’s specially created Christmas Emporium Sally Thomas, store marketing manager, said: “Christmas really has started now.
