There has been a mill on the same site since the twelfth Century but by the early 1950s Woodbridge was home to the only surviving tidal mill in the country. Sadly in 1957 the oak shaft of the wheel broke preventing any further operation and tidal powered milling on the River Deben had finally come to an end. Thankfully local groups rallied and in 1982 a fully restored and working tidal mill was officially opened again. Wheel turning is subject to tide
