THOUSANDS of people ignored torrential rain to watch veterans of Afghanistan on parade today.

Onlookers stood several deep on either side of the high street in Colchester, Essex, to see members of 16 Air Assault Brigade march through the town.

Second World War veterans stood alongside shoppers and grandparents with children to show their support for the brigade - which includes battalions of the Parachute Regiment.
The brigade was marching to ceremonially exercise its Freedom of the Borough granted by Colchester Council.
