Your Gray Flycatcher photos are Northern Mockingbirds. Gray flycatchers are small Empidonax flycatchers with dark eyes, a small bill, and overall gray plumage with pale wing bars. Tail and wing flicking is also diagnostic of this species. They often also stay lower to the ground sallying out to snag insects when compared to other Western Empidonax.

We’re moving to SG in three weeks from PA. I can’t wait to look for what birds live by me and surrounding areas. I will miss our red cardinals! Thank you for these gorgeous pictures!!

Great photos! Thanks for sharing them. I have about 15 yellow finches in my back yard this week and have been trying to get pics. It is not easy! Think some kind or Orioles flew through my yard last week and I was not ready.

Robin size brown bird with short heavy beak. Faintly rusty colored underbelly. Was digging the leaves under a bush. New to area, don't know where to look for identification.

There is at least one hawk that comes and eats the little birdies in our yard in Hurricane. I know they have to eat too, but I feel like we are providing a birdie buffet for it. Birds sit on our block wall and the next think I know, the hawk is swooping in for a meal. Is there any deterrent I can use to discourage the hawk? One of those fake owls with a bobbing head was a joke. I just want the hawk to go eat a mouse or bird someplace besides our yard.

I saw a beautiful hawk (?) on the patio fence close to the rocks in St. George (Bloomington area). It's tail feathers were spread and at first I thought it was a pheasant. What kind of hawk would that be?

I took a picture of a bird today that I think may be a little unusual. It has a turquoise head and a gold collar and some gold on its breast. There is also some blue on the wing tips. I have no idea how to send a picture to you but would like to share-maybe someone can help me find out what it is.

Thanks for the nice comments Randy. The Lark Bunting is black. about the size you mentioned and has a very pretty song. It does have some white on the wings which you didn't mention.
