INFRARED

I have modified my Nikon D100 in order to shoot infrared images. All images in this gallery are done in Infrared. This new gallery will be updated on a regular basis. Comments will be appreciated.

Brian, right out of the camera the sky is a salmon or reddish color. Most photographers reverse the red and blue channel in Post Processing. I prefer to do most of my IR images in black and white but will occasionally do some in color.

The inconvenience of long exposures and the inability to clearly view the subject. Once your camera is modified it is just like shooting any picture; i.e., short exposures, bright viewfinder.

What is the drawback to not modifying the D100, and just using an R72 filter and utilizing timed exposures?

Hi James, thanks for your comments. LifePixel modified my D100 and it works great without any external filters. Shooting IR is as easy as shooting with a standard DSLR. I suggest you go to the LifePixel website for additional information.

If you do modify your D100, is the camera only good for IR at that point, or can you also shoot regular shotos with it?

Your IR images are very impressive. How did you modify your D100 for IR? Did you do this internal or by using a Hoya 72 filter? I have two D100's, and would love to shoot IR.

Hi Jayesh,
The photoshop version of IR is not to my liking and I had a D100 camera sitting around gathering dust. Life Pixel made the modification and it allows one to shoot IR just as you would shoot a regular image. I know that some you use filters to shoot IR with regular cameras but this is difficult and requires long exposures. I am glad you like the image that I have taken.
