Juan Tellez Toledo or Juan Tellez Hellin
Or Tellez Toledo .
In 1908 he exhibited quite successfully this Sevillian Mexican born in 1879.
He was known as Tellez Toledo despite his mother last name being Hellin
Born in Seville Spain in 1879 and Passed insane in Mexico in 1930.
He studied in Paris in 1905 and in New York in 1910 .
Exhibited in MOMA in 1940 .
The National Gallery of Mexico has two of his paintings on display .
In the survey section , the journalist Ortega decided to go to the Escuela Nacional Prepararoria to ask the painters there who following question :
Who is the greatest painter in Mexico ?
The caricaturist Emesto Garcia Cabrai ironically responds that it is Juan Tellez Toledo , a madman who had been hugely successful in Argentina !
Juan Tellez towards the the end of the 19 th century and probably still very young he entered to the old Academy of San Carlos to study painting , but he also had the opportunity to do it in Spain ; According to Juatino Fernandez , in 1899 he went to Seville , "Where he was a disciple of Jose Garcia Ra -Mos .
During the years spent in Spain , Juan Tellez must have been enchanted by the paintings of the masters of the golden age !

Died Insane , Mexico D.F. 1930 To Mexico as a child Studied at San Carlos Academy , returned to Seville , 1889 to Mexico again .
1904 In Paris , 1905 New York ,1910 where he lost his mind ,Painted many portraits of unusual atmospheric and colour sensitiveness .
I purchased these original Oil paintings at an estate sale here in Toronto many years ago .
Unfortunately many people do not know the history of this important artist !
I am still in the process of researching this artist so in time I hope to have more biographical information here .
There are many points left unwritten , I will write more on this amazing artist as time permits !
