About two weeks ago, I witnessed an amazing sight along McKay Creek a few miles northeast of Pilot Rock, Oregon. Due to the unusual amount of snowfall this winter, an adult pair of Bald Eagles, with two juveniles, had temporarily moved into the creek bottom - much to my delight. One afternoon, I watched two Northern Harriers take on all four Bald Eagles in aerial battle. (Honestly, it might have been the other way around, because I missed who started the fight.) The spectacle ensued for only a few minutes with swooping and diving in and out of cottonwood trees at break-neck speeds. Near the end, comically, a Red-tailed Hawk raced over the house and across the pasture to perch in a creek-side snag for front-row seats!
