DRIVING WHEEL PATTERN FOR TORNADO No 60163

In 1990 a group of people came together to construct a brand-new Peppercorn A 1 Pacific.
They formed the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust and in 2008 No.60163 Tornado moved under its own power for the first time.

Tornado’s wheels were cast under a sponsorship agreement with William Cook Cast Productions at Sheffield.
The finished driving wheel center is 6’2” in diameter and has a 3” thick steel tire shrunk onto it which can be pe-profiled as it wears and can be replaced when the tire becomes too thin.
