Great Ayton

New images are at the start of this gallery

The country village of Great Ayton with its population of around 5000 people has quite a bit of history linked to Captain James Cook who lived and schooled here as a boy.
The house his father built was dismantled in 1934 and now stands in Fitzroy Park, Melbourne, Australia.
James Cook also worshipped in the 12th Century All Saints Church.
He attended the Postgate School which is now converted into the Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum.
