Message from Geraldine Cropser
Welcome to my PBase Galleries.
My love of nature, travel, and photography began at an early age. Although I was raised in California, I spent my childhood summer vacations hiking in beautiful Utah, my parents' birthplace. The "defining" moment was at the age of twelve, when on a family hike in Zion National Park, during a surprise summer thunderstorm, I witnessed spontaneous waterfalls cascade down Zion's red steep canyon walls. From that moment on, I knew I was hopelessly "hooked" on nature and travel, and wanted to keep those amazing images alive in my mind, and began carrying a camera with me everywhere.
Visually, as a photographer, I am drawn to the edges of light, and want the light and the absence of light to provide stark contrast to bright colors, which creates sharp lines, shadows, and silhouettes. Working at the extremes of these light boundaries is part of the thrill and challenge of photography for me, creatively and personally.
Fortunately, I was able to continue my pursuit and passion for photography throughout my fulfilling teaching career in Special Education, exploring and traveling the world during the summers and holiday seasons.
I am self-taught, and learned and honed my photography skills through my world travel experiences, books, and photo workshops. In fact, I met my husband, Gar, at a workshop in Death Valley National Park, literally on a sand dune at dawn, and we have shared our love of the outdoors and photography together ever since.
Presently, my PBase Photo Galleries represent many images from my early work using slide film. I will be adding my digital work in the coming months, so stay tuned. Thank you for viewing my photography. Enjoy!
