Plaque in Cadiz honoring Alejandro Malaspina, Italian born, who sailed for Spain. He explored the west coast of North America, including Alaska. The Malaspina Glacier (see below) is named after him. Impressed by Adam Smith and others, Malaspina wrote in support of liberalization of 18th century Spain, and consequently was imprisoned following his historic scientific voyages.
