At this point in their journey it was late October. They were pretty apprehensive about both getting to the mouth of the Columbia as well as where they were going to spend the winter. Ultimately, they arrived at the site of Fort Clatsop on December 7, 1805. Their month and a half sojourn from this spot to the Fort was about the most miserable period of their trip.
