A fledgling Great Blue Heron, perhaps on its first flight, is struck and injured by a passing vehicle.
Myself and a volunteer from the Chicago Bird Collision Monitors network were able to capture the bird. It was then taken to the Willowbrook Wildlife Center for treatment.
The bird was treated for a wing fracture and other injuries it had sustained. Despite their efforts, the bird did not respond to treatment. It was humanly euthanized to prevent further suffering. A very unfortunate ending for this fledgling heron.
