While hiking today I found out my long-time friend Roger Cook had passed away. Roger was a fixture at Spring Valley for many years. I first met Roger around 28 years ago when I moved to Hoffman Estates from Chicago. He was a very quiet unassuming person. I would sometimes hike with Roger on the trails. He was an expert photographer and naturalist. He knew every square inch of the nature sanctuary and would share his knowledge with anyone that was interested. He spent almost every day at Spring Valley after he retired. In the last year he could no longer hike the trails. Whenever I arrived I would always stop over and talk to Roger where he sat in his car. After my hike I would always report back to him what I had seen or photographed that day. I can't imagine visiting Spring Valley without Roger being there. I would like to dedicate this photo to his memory. I will always know Spring Valley Nature Sanctuary as Roger's place.
