I'll never know. A hawk flew in from my right into a wooded area. I quickly followed and saw it perched on a cross branch. I could not tell which direction it was facing so moved sideways to get a clear shot as opposed to moving forward and closer. The hawk sat tall and in the clear. Turns out it had its back to me but by the time I realized this and moved in it was getting ready to take off (image above).
