I have never seen a bird stuck like this before. I have no idea how this unfortunate Barn Swallow ended up in the position it was in. The leading edge of one of its wing was threaded through the small loop of a metal wire hanging from a fence post.
Initially I thought about unthreading the leading wing edge through the metal wire loop but I saw it was stuck in there really good. There was a risk the procedure may break some of the bones or joints in the wing.
Went to the car and looked in the trunk for some tools. Was I ever glad to find a pair of pliers in there. I held the bird with one hand while I unwound the wire loop with the plier. I checked the Barn Swallow's wing for any damage. I straightened out the stuck wing out as much as I could. Soon as I let the bird down on the trunk of my car it took off. And I couldn't have been happier.
