Peregrin Falcon - Downtown Ottawa

Ottawa, Ontario. Canada

This adult Peregrin Falcon flies high over downtown Ottawa. The parents are becoming more vigilant now that the two baby Peregrin Falcons...born not too long ago...are making themselves more visible, even hanging near the ledge of the downtown hotel they call home as they begin getting themselves ready to fly one day.

"The name "peregrine" means wanderer, and the Peregrine Falcon has one of the longest migrations of any North American bird. Tundra-nesting falcons winter in South America, and may move 25,000 km (15,500 mi) in a year." --- Cornell Bird website.

Lovely shot Justme.

I wonder if there would be a roof somewhere you could go and get a closer view of it. Yes I heard this species is the fastest one. In downtown Ottawa they have a lot of preys around since Peregrine eats a lot of Pigeon and Dove. Which can be found in large numbers down there, LOL.

Excellent capture again.

Thanks Daniella. The Peregrin Falcon is an awesome raptor to see in person. Unfortunately it is often viewed from only a distance as it flies high over the city or perched on some lofty structure. From what I have read on the web and in books, the Peregrin Falcon is one of the fastest birds in the world, reaching speeds of 320 km/h (200 mph) as it drops toward its prey.
