Great Gray Owl listening for prey

Ottawa, Ontario. Canada

"They hunt rodents such as voles under the snow by using their keen hearing. They can hear voles from 20 to 40 metres and will plunge feet first into snow to catch them. Once they detect prey the owls fly from their perch, hover while they pinpoint the sound, then strike." - Brian Ratcliffe

Thanks Tammie, I like this one too. This is the reason they came down here in the first place, a scarcity of food in their normal hunting grounds, the boreal forests up north.
