This redtailed hawk apparently collided with the mirror on a pickup truck. The driver just picked up the hawk from the pavement and placed it in the open back of the truck and drove it to the Ottawa Wildbird Care Centre. I hear it is recovering nicely and will soon be released back into the wild. Seeing how feisty it is in these close quarters I can tell it is ready too. The hawk did suffer from some slight problem with its vision but I was told its vision will be at 94% capacity when released.
See those sharp black talons? Well, this redtailed hawk dug them deep into the flesh of someones arm. Once dug in they are extremely difficult to extract due to the curved shape of the talons, a great design especially for holding onto prey. I heard they just had the guy hold his arms out and waited for the hawk to relax its grip which it eventually did. Must have been a very painful wait though.
