This is a composite image of the same owl catching a vole and then flying away to consume it on a post further away. I watched it catch several voles. What an awesome experience to see. The short-eared owl plunges into the snow to catch prey just like the great gray owl and northern hawk owl.

This was photographed from the road. One of two owls flying around.

Cloned out some weeds sticking out from the snow.
