Ottawa's famous black chipmunk survives another winter. A black chipmunk is rare enough that for most people it will be a once in a lifetime encounter unless you happen to find out where one lives. In that case, you'll see it much more often. Although it made a brief appearance in early 2011 last year, I did not see it again for the rest of the year. So it was a delight to find it scampering about this Spring. For the vast majority of people living in Ontario and the rest of Canada, their chances of seeing one in their lifetime is very remote.
