HAFC47_Neptune.The color photo is courtesy of Peter Fragoyannis, nephew of Major Panayotis Fragoyannis ( seen in center of photo, with black flight jacket, among Hellenic Army officers and aircrew) commander of 13th Flight.Major Fragoyannis was killed in Dec. 22, 1951, in K13 in an Air Evac mission, when the C-47(ser. 492616) he piloted collided with a USAF F-80 on the runway.
The aircraft in the photo is a legend:After taking part in numerous missions in various parts of Korea, became stuck in the sand and flooded in K-53 and had to be abandoned. It was subsequently recovered, flown to Ashiya and from there to Clark A.F base in the Philippines, where it undertook major repairs and returned back to Korea. This aircraft is still flying today with the Hellenic Air Force!
