Puna Peninsula, Hawaii, Jan. 2007 Located south of Hilo, Puna is a rural area with young land of a very volcanic character. Its a mix of small towns, homesteads and lots of black lava covered by lush vegetation. You can see spectacular bays and black sand. Point of interest are the highway 130 interrupted by most recent of the lava flows from Kilauea's Pu'u O'o vent, the historic Star of the Sea Church relocated from the no more existing town of Kalapana, and the brand new land at the Kaimu Beach. |
