With my checkout from Maui Aviatiors I embarked on another flight from Kahului.
This time I departed to the West, with the intention to circle the older Maui volcano Pu'u Kukui. I followed the shoreline to Lahaina. From there I crossed the channel to Lanai, circled the island and landed on it for a lunch break at Blue Ginger Cafe, 409 Seventh St. Lanai City, HI 96763. This was the first time that I was on Lanai. After the lunch I flew over Kaho'olawe and returned to Kahului through the saddle between Maui volcanos Pu'u Kukui and Haleakala. This flight gave me rare view of Kaho'olawe surface, which was still off limit to visitors due to the ongoing cleanup of the explosives. The air was very humid and the turbulence was at times violent. This spoiled quite a number of images and caused diverse blemishes on others, such as reflections in the aircraft windows, loss of sharpness down to a very visible blurr. Some of them are askew, but... these are the memories from the adventure! |
