Brown Pelican preening

I watched the Brown Pelican on Lake Conway (Faulkner Co. Arkansas) today (March 22, 2009) for about 45 mintues. The entire time it preened. It would dip its bill in the water and go over its feathers, then it would take its head and run it all over its back to clean its head. Quite facinationg to watch. When it was finished, it stood with its wings slightly held out to dry ... or so I suspected.
