You don't need to buy this; make it out of everyday objects. Bob uses a red spray-can lid, (although any color would work, red's the favorite color), a short segment of broomstick or dowel inside the lid, applies Tanglefoot (available at nurseries) on the top of the lid, then assembles it with two screw eye hooks through the broomstick...it looks a lot like your photo...except inverted...never any ants, and you don't have to fill it with water....maybe the Vaseline suggestion would also work, we've never tried that.

If the carpenter ants are too big to drown, you can also hang them upside down and put a bunch of vaseline in the moat. Very nice pictures Gail

OK I get it. Maybe I can find some around here or on line. If nothing else I'll go to Wild birds unlimited when I go to visit in Illinois over Memorial weekend. Thanks, Jacque.
This ant mote, used in the summer to keep ants out of the hummingbird feeders, is a favorite drinking device for many birds in my yard. I get the motes at Wild Birds Unlimited. You fill the mote with water, then hang the hummingbird feeder from the bottom hook, which keeps ants from crawling down onto your feeder. Because so many birds enjoyed drinking water from the motes, I kept them up all winter as drinking containers.
