L'Abbaye de Fontfroide a été fondée à la fin du XIème siècle. Elle sera au XIVème siècle une des plus riches abbayes en Europe, avant de connaître un lent déclin jusqu'à la Révolution Française. En 1908, le patrimoine fut sauvé par Gustave Fayet, proche de Paul Gauguin et d'Odilon Redon.

Fontfroide Abbey was founded at the end of the 11th century. In the 14th century, it became one of the richest abbeys in Europe, before experiencing a slow decline until the French Revolution. In 1908, the abbey's heritage was saved by Gustave Fayet, a friend of Paul Gauguin and Odilon Redon.
