Mesa Verde

Mesa Verde National Park preserves the Ancestral Puebloans' dwellings who made this place their home for more than 750 years, from A.D.550 to A.D.1300. First we visited Cliff Palace which is the largest cliff dwelling in Mesa Verde. To get to it you decend uneven stone steps. But to get out of it, you climb five ladders for a 100 ft vertical climb. Then we went hiking on a trail to the petroglyphs. This was a strenuous hike over rocks, downed trees and narrow cliff paths. Next we saw Spruce Tree House where the kiva (ceremonial room) had the roof intact and is accessed by a ladder. In the Cliff palace the roofs are missing and are the round rooms in the photos. We also road around the park and saw additional dwellings and a temple.
