Machu Picchu the Lost Citadel of the Incas. It was constructed on a mountain ridge above the Urubamba Valleu in Peru around 1460. It is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Since it was not plundered by the Spanish whey they conquered the Incas, it is especially important as a cultural site and it is considered a sacred place. The last photo is of a local shaman who carries on the traditions of the past. This is truley a sacred place.
Wow, Grace, these pictures are so amazing! The surrounding scenery is so majestic and the architecture of the Incas is awesome. Thanks so much for sharing these--some of these views give even more perspective on how huge an accomplishment this historic site is than when we were there--especially since the tourists look so small and insignificant!
