Myself, Joyce Wilda and Bonnie volunteered 3 days for Habitat for Humanity. The first day we worked in their Restore store. This is where they sell used items at low cost so residents can fix their homes. All money goes to building Habitat for Humanity homes. Then we worked two days on a home. Collectively we painted the house, built a form for a concrete pad, put up F channels, cut soffits, built a wooden proctective cover for the deck and hung siding. It was very gratifying. I also included pictures of the destroyed homes that still clutter the neighborhood. The housing mix is new Habitat homes, restored old homes and destroyed homes all on the same block. It is so sad that the people of the 9th ward still live with Katrina on a daily basis. There are bright spots though, one is Tennesse Street. This is part of the Brad Pit Make It Right Foundation. The goal is to build 150 green homes utilizing solar power and other green technologies.
