Seven hikers drove for 3 hours to get up on the Mogollon Rim for a July hike. The temperature is Phoenix was expected to be 109 F, but the rim is usually 20 degrees cooler. The hike started just north (and above) Pinchot cabin, which is an historical landmark. From there the trail heads south passing, in order, Pinchot Spring, Aspen Spring, and McFarland Spring. At about 4 miles the trail meeets FR139. Our plan was to hike to FR139 and return.
We arrived at the trailhead and started our hike at about 9:45 AM. The sky was clear and the weather cool, well, at least it was not hot.
