distressing

Bryce Canyon NP, Utah

with just over 325 million visits in 2023, America's national parks are clearly popular and valued...it is then distressing to learn of big job cuts and firings of employess of the National Park Service and the US Forest Service, certain to adversely affect park visitors both international and native

local jobs will suffer too, not that the billionaires mistakenly elected and/or appointed will take much notice, disconnected as they are from the day-to-day reality of regular folks

The outlook for my country is distressing but we can only hope beautiful places like this remain accessible to ordinary folks.

A fine image to accompany the worrying news from across the Atlantic.

Red-rocked grandeur and a volley of heartfelt words with which I deeply sympathise, David. The world is suddenly a more dangerous and uncertain place for so millions of decent, hard-working and law-abiding people.

This beauty means much to me and your photograph is a treasure!
Beautiful work such as this and powerful words will rally the people to action.

Hopefully at least half the country, and those who can, will rally around to maintain some sense of the importance of places like this for people to get away from the insanity of the situation.

A beautiful scene, but with tragic news.

I share your appreciation of places like this and apprehension regarding the future.

A fine shot, the snow really ads depth and accents the geological formations.

Beautiful capture of the changes in the landscape. He would destroy the Grand Canyon if it would make him money. V

Great shot but sad with job cuts!

So sad. But at least landscapes such as this remain inspiring - and hopefully they won't be changed. It is a more general truth, I find, that in a troubled world, nature such as this (and also, importantly, friends) provides the drive to keep one's outlook positive.

Great shot of this beautiful landscape. Sad to hear about the job cuts. V!

Fine shot of this magnificent scene. As I said elsewhere, I don’t think the current regime cares about the parks or the visitors, either foreign or local…

Your photo of this gorgeous area is tinged with sadness because of the distressing cuts to the NPS and the USFS, and so what, one wonders, is the fate of all the astonishing parks and national monuments and forests now.
