dangerous

Chichen Itza, Yucatan, Mexico

it is 98 ft (30m) up to the top of the temple of Kukulcan, yet only 79ft (24m) to its base on top of the pyramid, so a steep yet doable climb...descending is another story...the risers are higher than standard steps, and the treads much shallower...going up only the toes fit on the treads, but coming back down only your heels fit, and that makes it tricky, and dangerous

in 2006 a San Diego woman negotiating the steps fell to her death...wear, damage, and graffiti from tourists was already concerning, and the fatality a final straw, promptimg a ban on climbing to the temple

I remember climbing it back in 2001. Going up was pretty easy but coming down quite scary. You miss one step and you probably tumble the rest of the way. My daughter and I survived though. Excellent, tightly cropped portrait of this famous pyramid. ~BV~

Yes! Spectacular and dangerous...
I remember: once I got to the top, when I turned around and saw the slope I had to go down, I said to myself: But what took me to climb here!
A good capture of Chitzen Itza !

Your description of the descent is enough to give one pause about going up there! So sad that someone lost their life there.

Fabulous photo of this steep ascent.

I'm assuming you bravely climbed before the closure. Not even a handrail in sight.

I would keep my feet on the ground! Great shot. V

As Dennis says not at my age!
This is really a fantastic photograph with this exceptional sky!

Yes, these ancient steps are a challenge to climb everywhere. Sometimes need to climb down the same way you climb up, ie facing the steps. But there should be no 2nd thoughts about this, you can move this photo to your other galleries! V

I would have been to chicken to have tried...well maybe the first ten steps or so I might have managed. No way now, my knees wouldn't like it.

Did you attempt the climb? If so, at least you are still alive to tell the story.

what a magnificent Inca temple, the stairs seem to be very steep and dangerous to go down. V

A great capture of the scene, but for sure I will not climb up.

Great shot of the stairs, but that sounds incredibly dangerous.

Great view of the Castillo. Going down is much more difficult and dangerous than going up. The pyramid at Uxmal is even steeper.
