gold

near Agassiz

in 1858 gold was discovered along the Fraser River, and prospectors, mostly American, flooded in...to protect British interests in the area, the governor declared the region an official English colony named British Columbia, thwarting US expansionist ambitions...the gold ran out, but not completely...even today a few optimistic souls still pan for it along the side-eddies and sand bars of the river

Great shot of the man panning for gold. We used to do that here in the California hills many years ago.

Fabulous capture of this modern-day prospector still venturing to these riverbanks, in the hope of finding gold dust in the river's hidden recesses....V

What a neat candid. Can't help but wonder whether he found any gold.

Nice shot of this optimistic man searching for the prize.
There is an old spent Gold Mine on a hill about two miles from our house.
It had to be closed in because people kept looking for Gold.
