liquefaction

Sea Island, at the mouth of the river, was built up from thousands of years of silt accumulation...when the next large scale earthquake occurs, that silt will be subject to liquefaction....just the spot for an international air[port...or maybe not

Probably not a good long term decision, but it seems to be not a single occurrence as at least a couple airports in the far east have been built on totally man made land. This is an interesting link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Artificial_island_airports ~V~

I'm not usually a fan of centrally-placed subjects but this works, in no small measure because of the gentle V shape of the distant mountains, into which the control tower sits perfectly. Good shot David. As for the location of the airport, well, time will tell!

a beautiful airport image, fine composition with the mountains in the background! V
Walter Otto Koenig09-Apr-2021 14:43
Like the view with this long focal length.

A wonderful view once on the ground but mountainous airports always add a little adrenaline when landing and taking off. The thought of an earthquake just adds to the adventure. The word tsunami also comes to mind. V

A nice panoramic view of the site, crowned by the white mountains...V.
... As for the airport you will have to do with it, with the "plane-bashing" who will dare to build a new one? :)

Like the background. ~V

There might not be anywhere to go anyway...
Glenn D.09-Apr-2021 03:09
But the theory goes; if the big one hit (and it will) the planes will just fly away, leaving all their troubles and quick-slit behind.
Dennis Hoyne09-Apr-2021 02:48
We still probably won't be going anywhere by then. A cool airport shot!
Julie Oldfield09-Apr-2021 00:10
What a fascinating capture. So much to take in. Not only do the earthquakes seem scary, but taking off with those mountains seem terrifying. V

A frightening thought but sure is pretty today.
bill friedlander08-Apr-2021 23:19
Hope the flight path is not over the mountains.
Helen Betts08-Apr-2021 22:57
Nicely layered capture of the airport, but a scary thought.
Nick Paoni08-Apr-2021 20:30
Gosh- see your point. Here is CA we have a lot of development on reclaimed bay coastal areas and that is a major concern. At least the view is great for now.
John Hamers08-Apr-2021 20:18
Seems like a not well thought out location for an airport. A well composed capture however. V!
Mairéad08-Apr-2021 19:42
A striking composition. I guess people hope these things will never happen.
Colin Storey08-Apr-2021 19:27
Nice image of this poorly planned location for an airport.
John Vass08-Apr-2021 18:59
Seemed like a good idea at the time... V
Johnny JAG08-Apr-2021 18:41
Makes you wonder! Will be ok in a hovercraft.
Don Mottershead08-Apr-2021 18:25
The upside is that if you are landing there during an earthquake it will be a soft landing.
fotabug08-Apr-2021 17:42
What mountains are those? Not the continuation of Cascades, are they?
joseantonio08-Apr-2021 17:40
nice composition with the mountains in the background.V.
