nothing changes

South Granville

as U2 sang..'all is quiet on new year's day.......nothing changes on new year's day'...especially the rainy weather

the Crescent Court Apartments building dates from 1912...the ground floor currently houses a lingerie store, but a century ago was the site of a Piggly Wiggly self-serve supermarket...it was bought out by Safeway in 1928

I had no idea that they ever had Piggly Wiggly up there. The rain really makes the color vivid and the atmosphere palpable. ~BV~

Classic build and classic Vancouver. Sometimes it is good that things remain the same. V

A beautiful old building perfectly composed on a rainy day with one pedestrian and his umbrella! V

A nice capture of your true Winter weather. Wish we had that as we are far behind in snow and rain totals.

The red awnings turn the gloomy scene into a hopeful one. V

Beautiful colours in such rainy weather (V)

Love how the red and yellow colors pop in the damp overcast. The umbrella covered figure approaching the edge of the frame is a fitting visual metaphor for the new year and all it may bring. I remember Piggly Wiggly from my childhood but none remain where I am.

This is such a beautiful photograph!
That building with its red awnings is such a visual treasure!
Perfect timing for the placement of this figure walking.
This seems like a new day coming that holds much promise.

The red canopies add a welcome splash of colour on a dreary day, giving it an almost Parisian feel. V
Fong Lam02-Jan-2021 12:18
Dampness and cold pervade the scene with the man striding across the rain-drenched street... and the shops' warm light breaks the dreary sky...V
John Hamers02-Jan-2021 10:51
Great POV for this fine street capture. The bright colors make a nice contrast with the rainy mood. !V

The premises have changed hands and the weather will, too, given a bit more time.

You did a fine job capturing the rainy day mood, the watery colors and gray framing. V

I had no idea Piggly Wiggly was ever in Canada! The building is beautiful, the streets quiet and the rain gives a sense of melancholy. V

I know this building well as we have strolled along South Granville many times...but I didn't know about its interesting history, great of you to share this. Love the colors and the contrast you have applied to liven up this dull day. All the best to you for the New Year David. V

Rainy weather but lots of nice colors. Perfect with the person crossing the street!

Great POV for this capture. Despite the bright colors, it still looks pretty dreary there.
Walter Otto Koenig01-Jan-2021 21:49
The red awnings brighten things up on a rainy day. Nicely timed to get the man crossing the street.
Nick Paoni01-Jan-2021 21:43
A rainy day scene. Love that you included the fella walking across the street.
