built in the mid 1860s, the modest Hastings Mill Store (also first library and post office) is Vancouver's oldest building...initially it was part of the Hastings Mill complex, a downtown area lumber operation key to the founding of the city...surviving the great fire of 1886, it was later saved from destruction by the Native Daughters of British Columbia, as a valuable relic of Vancouver's early days...now it is located at the north end of Alma Street, in a small park...currently the building houses a museum packed with artifacts from the city's short yet colourful history
