invader

this red-eared slider, seen basking on the grass, is one of several that have been dumped in the pond by pet owners...they are attractive, but invasive, and crowd out native species

not the sharpest of shots as I was sprawled on the grass, and it was nervous about me coming close, and so intent on ambling back to the water

Olympus Stylus TOUGH TG-3
1/125s f/18.0 at 18.0mm iso800 full exif

other sizes: small medium large auto

Nicely placed in the frame. Looks like you're being checked out carefully David.

A good close in shot nevertheless. A good look at the shapes and colors. V

Bold move to get a close-up with the tiny TG-3, having one's fingers so close to the powerful maw.

a sympathetic invader, I like the patterns and colors on his skin! V

Beautiful! It is not their fault that they are an invasive species, is it? It is all those irresponsible owners who dump them when no longer wanted. V

He really is quite beautiful - such interesting stripes - too bad they're a problem. You captured him very nicely (presuming that it is a "he") V
Helen Betts01-Aug-2016 23:35
He may have been nervous, but I think you still got a remarkable shot. How sad to think that people dump pets like this.
Dan Greenberg01-Aug-2016 23:19
Not bad though. I like his facial expression.

Good portrait, it's a beauty such a pity it's in the wrong place
Colin Storey01-Aug-2016 19:38
A fine portrait of this unwanted pet. Such a shame that people do this.
Jess. ( Lady.D.)01-Aug-2016 19:36
Still a very good shot David, unfortunately people do not think before they buy!

We are experiencing the same thing! And our native Pond Turtles lose out on habitat and food.
