vanishing

it seems the local population of Glaucous-winged Gulls is slowly vanishing..over the last three decades on the west coast numbers of breeding pairs are down by over 50%, due to a decline in some of the fish, such as herring and oolichan, which were once important foods for them...now they have adapted to human foods (see previous image), so with the resultant loss of fish protein in their diets, produce fewer and smaller eggs

the blatant photo-chicanery here comes from the use of the TG-3s 'reflector' option

Did a double take when I saw this. Great effect, a bummer for the gulls. V

I had to refocus on this one, David! Gets your attention. Sad to hear about the decline, possible over-fishing to blame.. V

The reflector option works throughout this image, from table to background, but it's the well placed two beaked apparition which really catches the eye. "V"
