nurse

Quadra Island

when a tree falls over in the coastal rainforest, it quickly begins to decompose, becoming a 'nurse log' that provides moisture and nutrients for new growth...this process also helps support various insects, and so birds as well

I always enjoyed seeing the bounteous nurse logs in the rainforests of BC. This gorgeous shot shows well how much life takes root there. V

Fallen but not forgotten.
Looking like the 100 acre wood just down the road from me. A favourite place to go.
