quaint

a white picket fence, long a symbol of home and property ownership, seems a quaint artifact today...there are no longer so many of these boundary markers to be found on the west side of the city...also increasingly rare are the small stucco houses, usually dating from the early 20th century, like the brown one here...more and more often they are torn down and replaced with larger modern homes

'Tis the same here! The classic white picket fence, small house behind, is going the way of the Dodo. I find this photo nostalgic and exceptionally beautiful and very happy! VV

Wonderful the way you coordinated the lines in the fence with the lines in the houses. A very pretty image with the splashes of color from the flowers and the trees. V

Not only quaint but a timeless and pretty look. Especially with the flowers inside and outside the fence. This will never go out of style. Exceptional and beautiful photo. V.

so many changes...not always for the best. I like a neighbourhood that looks safe and homely

Sign of the times to build bigger, but not better. Glad to see a few survivors made it.

I suspect they'll be back in fashion when someone invents a wood-textured maintenance-free upvc version :o)
marie-jose wolff03-May-2012 20:42
neat houses, well fenced gardens, well flowered, it's reassuring, these are criteria of order and beauty for many people... V

A good reason for recording a scene before it is lost. Well done for doing that!
Shame that the picket fences are going, but I can imagine that their maintenance may put people off.

Great image of the fence leading to the house, hopefully they won't replace them all. v
