Lisburn, N. Ireland

the oldest photo easily visible in the house is of my parents on their wedding day in 1945…that’s my father in the RAF uniform, and my mother beside him in a dark dress...I have been wondering if the aging matte (passe-partout), discoloured by humidity, should be replaced, or if the image has more resonance as it is

Wonderful to have these kind of memory photos, yours is so lovely, and you composed your image so well with the candle. v
I think the passe-partout matches with the photo so well, I would only change it if the humidty damages the photo.

I love the candle next to this beautiful old photograph. Your mother is a very pretty lady! I think the mat certainly gives the photo loads of character but I would have a professional framer check it out to make sure it is not damaging this wonderful old image. It is very expensive to have photographs professionally framed but I have always been happy with the results any time I have had it done. ~V~

Beautiful memories of your pretty mother, lit by candlelight. Such a lovely composition. I hear much about acid-free matting. Perhaps you should check into that. VVV

These photos are such treasures. This is a particularly lovely one, and I love your composition with the red candle adding that soft glow. Not sure about the mat issue. The old one certainly gives the patina of age. VV

I wonder if the mat is acid free or if it can damage the print.
