The highest point in the Hawke's Bay region rising 399 metres above sea level. A 10-minute drive to the peak from Havelock North will give you panoramic views across to the east coast beach of Mahia and the ski slopes of Mt Ruapehu (in the distance).
The park also offers trails for hiking and biking. A platform used for paragliding is also located at the peak. Maori legend tells that the hillscape was a sleeping giant and Maori chief, Te Mata O Rongokako, that can be seen high above the hills of Havelock North, a quaint village just outside Hastings.
