Fun Fun Fun in Shinjuku and Harajuku! (Tokyo)

So on Sunday the gang headed out to Shinjuku, for some shopping and some sight seeing. Boy! Were we ever in for a treat! We walked out of the station and into a totally different world. The dress was...well you look and see. The shopping was as interesting. We walked along the streets with very upscale shops while strolling along side these folks.

Evidently Sunday afternoons are the time, and THE thing to do (if you're young enough and brave enough) is to dress up Goth-like and stand or walk around the Harajuku Station area. We stumbled upon this scene quite by mistake after watching a very clever street vendor ply his wares (remember guys?). Needless to say, we were speechless and stood there a good hour or more before we moved on. Quite a scene indeed.

And some of the close up shots were done by my fellow traveler (ML) who was braver than I and actually asked for photos from these people. Thanks, ML!! Photo credits where indicated.

Simply Wild!	Cleverly placed advertising	School Girls Playing It Safe (good for them!)	Our first "OMG! WHAT is she wearing" person when we left the Shinjuku station
"Oh sure! Take my picture, please!"	She was definitely posing for ML!	What is that on his butt? Looks uncomfortable to me.	"Oh my! LOOK at that!" (We see her in action later on that day)
Love the shoes	Good Grief! And it was pretty hot that day too.	After a while you just become speechless.	They all gathered around in a crowd across the street from the band that was playing.
Amazing!	I wish I had the nerve	Look at the dude in the white shirt, left bottom corner. LOL!	Guess he got used to them, but now look at the Western goober to the right. Ha!
Just a throng of ... people	Blue Hair	That stuff has got to be hot.	Ummm...OK
Definitely eye catching	And it just kept coming	A shy goth. She stood there in the shadows for a long time.	Love the socks!
Is she Scottish?	Sometimes there simply aren't words.	These folks were more than happy to pose.	OK. There's a story here, but I have to get permission first. Check back later.
Kinda traditional dress....kinda.....	Ooooo! Here's our chick who was crossing the street.	I just had to get you closer.	You can see the throng of people just walking around, dumbfounded.
Believe it or not this chick walked better in THESE shoes than most of the "regular" people I saw.	OK, Dude or Dudette (whatever you are) you're just scaring me a little too much.	Check the red headed guy in back just looking at these folks.	Mild by comparison, but for the US, pretty "out there"!

yes most people i find cosplay as Kyo (myaku and garden are the most comman music videos..) and mana's loli thing. Gazette's been popular lately as well. I <3 Harajuku ^^

So many Dir en grey cosplayers... Alsmot everyone of those who are in pics are cosplaying someone like they are not just some random lolitas or decoras etc.

i really don't see what all the hype is about the harajuku scene in japan.. sure, it's cute and all, but it's nothing that new or original that the goth scene in america doesn't have to offer.. half of them look like little mansonites (or marilyn manson fans) only worse.

Hi there this looks sooooo HOT I always loved Xtreme styles like gothic, punk, lolita, (and even "SM") but I never new there was a city full of people wearing these clothes I bet there are more out there on sunday then every single day in here the Netherlands My compliments to the one that shot these pics.. they're good!!! i love the pics thier amazing .the one with the girl and the extremely tall shoes is awsome but a little scary i mean i was talking to my friend bi instant message she lives i japan and i sent her the pic and she said she owned a pair a twisted her ankle badly in them and she said that if you fall you can break your neck. they should put warning labels on those things WOW!any ways the pics are good and i look forward to seeing more

Aye. They are just so beautiful, I wish people in America would work up the guts to dress like that. I suppose its really just what makes the Harajuku scene so intriguing. Someday I hope to go to Japan -^_^- (I've only literally been obsessing over the culture since I was 6 -_-)

Thanks for the comment! I was in Tokyo, Kyoto, Miyajima, Kamakura, and Hiroshima. Most of the pictures in the larger gallery are labeled as to where I was at the time. I LOVED Japan. I would go back in a heartbeat. Traveling as a single female was no problem at all, even though I don't speak the langauge. My favorite places were the small towns, like Miyajim and Kamakura. I hope you'll be able to go back. I'm envious! Sara
