Steam Locomotive No. 844 is the last stam locomative built for Union Pacific Railroad. It was delivered in 1944. A high-speed passenger engine, it pulled such widely known trains as the Overland Limited, Los Angeles Limtied, Portland Rose and Challenger. When diesels took over all passenger train duties, No. 844 was placed in freight service in Nebraska from 1957 to 1959. It was saved from being scrapped in 1960, and held for special service such as the Arizona Centennial. Stopped in Yuma on 11/16/2011 for viewing and left 11/17/2011 for CA. I arrived at the dunes, ten miles southwest of Yuma around 7:45 a.m. and waited. It was a beautiful morning and the train was right on time.
